New WIN Rescue Center

New-Wildlife-In-Need-Construction-details

After 21 years in our current site, WIN is making the move! We have acquired a lovey forested site for the new home of the WIN Rescue Center. Located further into the Subic Bay Forest Preserve, the site is along a quieter stretch of road, which will be nicer for the animals and staff. It comes with a seasonal stream during rainy season, and our own US Navy bunker. This huge space will house an animal food kitchen, human kitchen, staff quarters, and temporary housing for incoming rescues that need protection from the elements.

Outside we are working with a forester to help us create a layout of enclosures that will be placed in and among the trees, and in some cases incorporating existing trees in these animal spaces. Every den and yard will provide natural features and more complexity for our rescues – whether they spend a single day or become permanent residents if they are unreleasable.

The first new cage structure is underway.
For the first time we will have a proper enclosure designed for pre-release testing of raptors, and another for soft release of giant fruit bats. Building on our years of experience rescuing long-tailed macaques from the wildlife pet trade and socializing them into new “family groups”, we have designed a complex to facilitate introduction of newly arriving macaques as we build these socially compatible groups.

As we begin this exciting process, the hard work is underway – raising the funds needed to build our dream WIN Rescue Center. Any donation of any size is truly appreciated! We’ll keep you posted on our progress. Thanks!
